Hermès

The Hermès watchmaking tradition dates back to the 1920s,when its saddle-making talent was first exercised on watch straps. In 1928, the first Hermès watches were presented in the company store at 24, Faubourg Saint-Honoré. At the time, Hermès placed its signature on “timepieces” created in cooperation with the greatest names in the Swiss watch industry – such as Jaeger-LeCoultre,Universal, Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet – before founding in 1978the Ateliers de La Montre Hermès in Biel, Switzerland.

By setting up its workshops at the geographical heart of Swiss watchmaking territory, La Montre Hermès was proclaiming its taste for high standards and its passion for precision. It has thus been combining inventiveness and know-how for over 80 years through an approach firmly grounded on creative craftsmanship. In 2006, the Swiss watchmaking workshops welcomed the Hermès leather strap-making workshop. Just like bags and saddles, watch straps are made in harmony with stringent demands and according to a lengthy series of delicate operations performed on the finest hides. Whether precious and exotic or more traditional, these various types of leather come in a broad range of colours.
